Low Fantasy Gaming Solo - Temptress of the Haunted Path (part 3)

Mapping the quest.

In part two (read part 2 here) using Oldskull Adventure Creator by Kent David Kelly I created most of the quest , this gave me all the locales and 16 chaotic descriptors which could be used to give the locales a unique and interesting name, (as an example, Lough of Doom sound much more worthy of a Fantasy RPG than just Lough).

Because my characters are supposed to end up with a map to lead them to the ruined city and because I thought it would be of interest, to me at least, to see what I could create from the the random locals and chaotic descriptors I was given by the adventure generator, I sat down on a lazy Sunday afternoon and came up with the above map.  It does not show everything, just enough to get the adventure going, a second map will be needed showing the last leg of the journey through the Mushroom Filled Faerie Glade and on to the canals and ruined city but I think it demonstrated what can be achieved using the Oldskull Adventure Generator, limited map making skills and two to three spare hours.

Bigger than intended

It is becoming clear to me that the quest generated is greater in scope and scale than I had expected, with several possible side quests, a long and dangerous journey, dangerous terrain to cross,  NPC's to escort and more, I doubt I can cram all this into a couple of nights play.  That is no bad thing though, rolling on a few tables for 30 minutes, a couple of hours map making and a bit of imagination and I have myself a major quest for my four adventures to go on, something that I expect will keep me occupied in my spare time for a good few weeks to come.

I now have an idea for the opening scene and the first side quest, both set set in and around Crookedmouth, now I want to create a villain to act against my characters and try to thwart their quest whilst achieving he/her own aims along the way, also, I want to create the town of Crookedmouth, for that I am going to use Town and City Builder by James Embry but I will type that up in part 4.

Once that task is done, I will finally be ready to play the game.  I have made a note of some key words about the setting and adventure, I want it to be 'Dark', 'Gritty', 'Dangerous' and 'Fatalistic'.  I want the characters to be 'in it for themselves', they are not out to protect their village, their homeland or their king and queen, they are possibly not even out to protect each other, they are out to protect themselves, survive and if they can get rich along the way all the better, they are mercenaries serving whoever or whatever pays the most.

Rules and stuff.

As mentioned, I am using Low Fantasy Gaming RPG to run the game, the free version as thats all I have and can afford at the moment.
For these Low Fantasy Gaming quests l am going to use MUNE for the Oracle and solo rules.  I want to keep  things as simple as possible and MUNE is pretty good without over  complicating things.
And thats about it, keep it simple is my moto.

Next post will be building the town of Crookedmouth, creating a villian and setting the scene for the start of the adventure and 1st quest, until then
Adventure On!
