Recap.
My four adventures have found themselves in the sea town on Crookedmouth, the town seems ominously quiet and a sea mist has rolled in across the town.
My four adventures:
Canaid the Bard (click here for stats)
Pedler Glatz the Rogue (click here for stats)
Nydia Fernwise the Magic User (click here for stats)
Wren the Ranger (click here for stats)
Having found out that they are part of a prophecy to lead the young Komtess Arna to the scroll of Fire Demons, they now find themselves in the Hideous Mudflats to the east of Crookedmouth looking for the Komtess who ran in there after losing her purse.
There were two sets of footprints in the mudflats, one set heading to the sea, one away from the sea, the characters are following the set leading away from the sea.
The search in the Hideous Mudflats.
It is dusk and there is a sea mist covering the mudflats,
QUESTION - are the footprints the correct size for a young girl?
ANSWER - No (and)
QUESTION - are the footprints human?
ANSWER - Yes (and)
RANDOM VERBS - Mate, Breath, Wander
The characters realise the footprints are too big to be that of the Komtess, the footprints must have been made by a small man or woman. As the PC's follow the foot prints it becomes obvious that the person making the prints is wandering aimlessly. Ahead of them they can hear someone breathing heavily, then they hear someone shouting "help, friend, please help me".
QUESTION - is it the voice of a girl?
ANSWER - Yes (but)
RANDOM VERBS - Rescue, Introduce, Head
The PC's continue to follow the footprints towards the plea for help, the voice is that of a female but not a young girl. Only a few yards further on they see through the mist a young woman stuck up to her shoulders in sinking sand.
Nydia is the first to spot the young woman and realises that they need to get her out quickly before her head goes under the sand and they lose her for good.
Pedler takes off his long coat and shouts to the woman, "take a hold of my coat and I will pull you out" , keeping hold of one end,he throws it towards the woman.
QUESTION - Can the woman take a hold of the coat?
ANSWER - No (and)
The woman tries to free her arms to take hold of the coat but her arms are firmly held by the sinking sand and her movement causes her to sink further into the mud.
Pedler, deciding there is only one option left, rolls his coat over the sinking sand, he lays flat over his coat and tells the others to keep a tight grip of his feet, he reaches towards the woman and uses his hand to feel for one of her arms under the mud and sand.
QUESTION - Can Pedler take a hold of the woman's arm?
ANSWER - Yes (and)
Pedler fumbles around with his hands in the thick, porridge like mud and sand, he can feel himself starting to sink into it slowly but laying flat over the surface slows his decent.
He manages to find the woman's arm gripping it with his hand and she somehow manages to grip his arm with her hand.
"Pull us out, slowly"
DEXTERITY CHECK - Pedler makes a Dex check to see if he keeps a hold of the young woman's arm, her rolls a 1, Great Success.
As the woman becomes free from the sinking sand, Pedler manages to take hold of her with both his arms, Canaid and Wren, pulling on both of his legs, drag the two to safety.
The woman is covered in sticky foul smelling mud. She thanks the PC's for saving her life, Canaid asks the woman who she is but before she can reply they hear the sound of a war horn.
The characters, thinking this must be coming from the other group who must have either found the Komtess or be in danger. They decide to head back the way they came and find out.
As the character near the edge of mudflats they hear the sounds of combat and through the mists they see that Brunjur, Bayora, Ulfina and Arnjin have formed a circle around the young Komtess Arna and are fighting 12 brigands, the fighting is desperate and not going well for the Komtess and her four friends.
The characters sneak up to the brigands and they surprise them from behind.
I am not going to give a blow-by-blow account of this skirmish, with 20 combatants it got a bit hectic and would be as tedious to type up as to read. I will just sum up the outcome.
With half their number dead, the brigands fled into the mudflats, disparaging into the mist. They had inflicted damage to the party, Brunjur the soldier lay dead, Arnjin
the Champion was down to 4hp (from 19), Ulfina down to 7hp (from 19), only Bayana and Arna had suffered no injury.
The Characters had taken hits too.
Carnaid down to 2hp (from 8)
Pedler down to 5hp (from 8)
Wren down to 3 hp (from 10)
Some how Nydia had managed to avoid taking any damage in the fight although she was in the thick of it.
The young woman they had rescued was gone, they assumed back into town.
Before heading back into Crookedmouth themselves, the party moved the bodies including that of Brunjur further into the mudflats. Arna had found her purse, the characters could not help but notice that there was a strong bond between the young Komtess and her maid.
Back in Crookedmouth the party spent the night in one decent tavern, the Lords Road Tap House. A decision was made, they would buy equipment in the morning and try and hire a boat to take them all as far north up river as possible before going overland to find the ruined city. No one seemed to morn the loss of Brunjur.
Adventure On.
